The Palais

I was fortunate this past May to have two of my short films:
Sins of the Father and Keep a Modest Head screening during the Festival du Cannes in the South of France.

Each film was presented in a different context, and neither in official competition, but in an off shoot of the festival, which allows various organizations from around the world to showcase their work during the festival.

Sins of the Father was presented as part of the Festival du Nouveau Cinema’s Carte Blanche program, for which it had been commissioned. During the screening the showed the ten short films by various Canadian directors in one program.

The same was said for Keep a Modest Head, as sort of promotional screening presented by Telefilm Canada. The film was a part of a package called
Not Short on Talent, curated by Montreal’s Danny Lennon. 22 short films from the past 18 months were screened as “the best in Canadian shorts.”

The screening was sold-out, and although it was a small theatre, this is still a good sign.

It was a wild experience to attend the Cannes Festival, a festival very different than say the Toronto International Film Festival for example TIFF is a very public festival, while Cannes is very private, the public are not permitted to buy tickets to any screenings, in fact there are no tickets to buy! And the press have priority access and can completely fill an entire screening if they choose... so strange!

Anyway, it was a great experience, and so hopefully some photos to come!
